Fitness and Protein: How to use it

July 30th, 2010 | by admin |

This is part two of the protein video, where we will cover if protein powders are better than protein from food, if you should have protein before or after workouts, how much you need of it and if casein or whey makes the better protein. Because this topic is a bit controversial, I as always give you the scientific research behind what I say: – Are protein powders better than protein from food? Liu RH. @travanti1 As you are severely overweight and a beginner I wouldn’t worry about it too much. If your nutrition is balanced your body will learn to use the protein already in it better, as said in the video. When you are down to 250 lbs go for 125 g of protein and when later you are able to train hard you can steer toward the 1 g / lb of bodyweight.

Thats true :-) I think I’ll keep taking around 2g per kilo each day.

so say i was 300 pounds, would it be a good idea to have 300 grams of protein a day?

  8. By Evilcyber on Jul 30, 2010 | Reply

@Xknudsen Well, it’s not me who says that, but research and sometimes it goes contradictory to gym lore ;)

    Haha indeed.
Anyways, I’ve heard the “thumb rule” is to drink about 1,5-2g of protein, by each Kilo you weigh, a day..
And you’re saying its best to half that down to 1g per kilo?:)

@MrSmudger687 Yes you are right. I am so sorry, my bad. I confused zinc and potassium. Red meat, oyster, egg have more zinc level than banana. Sorry again.

@ehakan2 – I think you’re confusing zinc with potassium. The zinc content of bananas are relatively low.

@ehakan2 Ah thanks for pointing that out! I hadn’t thought about bananas zinc-levels, but now I read up a little more, and well, looks like I’m getting a fair amount of zinc. Always good to learn more, thanks again.

@MyTemporaryAccount88 Banana contains high amount of Zinc. Zinc provokes the production of testesteron hormone which is basically male hormone. Testesteron is neccesary for muscle growth….

@MyTemporaryAccount88 If bananas didn’t exist, someone would have to invent them! They are probably one of the greatest foods ever!

@pkhamidar2com If you consciously choose protein sources with less calories you should be able to keep it under control. The more experience you get with working out, the more finetuned you are to changes in your body.
