Can I name a company "Apple Sports" if a company named "Apple Nutrition" exists?
March 9th, 2010 | by admin |I want to name a company Silver Sports to manufacture and sell dietary supplements. However, a dietary supplement store is trademarked as Silver Nutrition. Names are hypothetical but basically, Silver is a common word. I am wondering if there could be problems with that area. Thanks!
In general, you can use a generic noun as part of your name without a problem, unless some MAJOR firm is already using that generic noun. For example, Steve Jobs has a team of lawyers who would be ready to pounce on anyone who tried to open a store called Apple Sports or Apple Nutrition.
